Statewide Resources:

Volunteer WV!/West Virginia Commission on National and Community Service
Provides information regarding volunteerism, national and community service, and produces a regular newsletter with information regarding available trainings and workshops for nonprofit organizations.

West Virginia Secretary of State: The Secretary of State serves as West Virginia’s chief charitable oversight office. To register for your charitable status or nonprofit fundraising, check out their resources and website

National Resources

United Philanthropy Forum:  The Forum is the national network of Philanthropy WV’s peers and other national/regional Philanthropy Advancing Organizations.  Philanthropy WV & The Forum connect our members with the largest network of foundations and corporate giving in the country.

The Chronicle of PhilanthropyThe national publication for philanthropy and the work of the sector. 

The Foundation Center:  The Center provides resources and services for grantseekers as well as grantmakers. Check out the options for their regional/local grant searching partnerships at local libraries and universities.

Guidestar:  In Guidestar’s effort to create a more transparent and accountable nonprofit community, they provide searchable IRS Forms 990 for both public charities and private foundations.

Grantmakers for Effective Organizations
GEO promotes organizational effectiveness by identifying and promoting grantmaking practices that improve grantee performance.

Independent Sector
The Independent Sector’s mission is to promote, strengthen, and advance the nonprofit and philanthropic community, to foster private initiative for the public good.
