UPDATE: I have received details on the plans for Susan Landis’ funeral. It will be this Wednesday, July 19th – 1 PM at the Beckley Presbyterian Church, 203 So. Kanawha Street, Beckley, WV.
As I have received requests from folks, I also wanted to share plans for memorial contributions for Susan. Gifts in memory of Susan Stevenson Landis can be made to the Beckley Area Foundation, 129 Main St #301, Beckley, WV 25801.
It is with immense sadness that Philanthropy West Virginia shares with our members that a long-time member and board member, Susan Stevenson Landis, passed away late on Friday after a short illness.
Susan has made a life changing impact on Beckley, Southern West Virginia, West Virginia, and the country through philanthropy, the arts and culture, community betterment, economic development, and contributions to so many organizations, communities, and lives. “Since Philanthropy West Virginia’s founding in 1993, Susan has played a pivotal role in not only leading the growth and impact of the Beckley Area Foundation, but also Philanthropy West Virginia and being an advisor, encourager in chief, and strategist to numerous community foundations in West Virginia and across the Appalachian region,” shares Paul D. Daugherty, president and CEO of Philanthropy West Virginia. He adds, “I have seen this impact not only in her support of organizations across the state, but that of the rising philanthropic, business, community, and nonprofit leaders including myself. Her presence is deeply missed and her support of so many was inspiring and transformative.”
Philanthropy West Virginia and the Mountain State’s community foundations network’s heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with Susan’s son Drew, his wife Sharon, granddaughter Madilyn Rose, and her extended family and friends. Once we know of the funeral arrangements and plans to honor her, we will be sending those details out to our members. We mourn for the loss of our dear friend, mentor, and advisor and a bright light that contributed so much to so many, but we know a new light joins the heavenly chandelier. Eternal rest grant unto Susan, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her.
