OPENING Session |
“We are Marshall”, err we mean Community Foundations: We kick off our time together with a discussion around what are unique ways that community foundations of all sizes are collaborating and connecting donors with impact. A conversation led by four community foundation leaders (two from WV and two from MD) will kick off the group discussion. Come prepared to discuss, learn, and take back great ideas to advance your work and donor relations. |

10:30 AM | PEER LEARNING LABS |
(A) CEOs and Executive Directors: “Absolute Power”: Join your fellow CEOs from West Virginia and Maryland discussing What’s on your Mind & What’s up with Washington? Bring your list of questions, concerns, or ideas you want to share for this facilitated discussion among your Executive Director/CEO peers. The only absolute power is the collective ideas, knowledge, and actions taken by you and your fellow leaders. (B) Director of Developments: “For Richer or Poorer”: In a time with tight budgets for some, join with other development/donor relations staff to discuss 10 to 25 great ideas for donor stewardship for small and big community foundations. You can do great things with small budgets no matter if you are “richer or poorer” (C) Communication Directors: “S/he is just not that into you”: How can you reach a broader audience with your local, state and national media to promote your community foundation, the impact you are having, and engage more partners? Well join us and several media representatives from The Chronicle of Philanthropy, WV Public Broadcasting, and others to see how you make sure they ARE into your community foundation’s great works. (D) Program Officers: “Angel’s Perch”: In community foundations, we get to see the bigger picture from our perch as funders, but it’s important to make sure we are having impact. As investment angels in our communities with small grants from $100 to big grants of $100,000 or more, we will discuss how do we know we’re having impact. |

Bring that burning topic, ideas, question, or the hidden figures you hope to find to our networking luncheon. Enjoy a great lunch and conversation covering topics of interest to you or pick your own table with a new topic from donor relations to board matters to human resources and much more. |

BREAKOUT WORKSHOPS |
(a) “A Year and Change”: Community foundations are uniquely positioned to be leaders to engage a diversity of community members as board members, volunteers, grantees, and donors. This discussion will focus on what types of change can you implement to ensure you have key elements of diversity, equality, and leadership involved in your community foundation’s work. (b) “NO Drums, NO Bugles” While the topic might not get much fanfare with drums or bugles, engaging your community’s transfer of wealth is a critical time to growing and preserving perpetual community assets. Learn from community foundations in both states as to creative ways that are growing endowments and long-term community potential. (c) “National Treasure: Book of Secrets”: What are secret ways to grow giving in your community, region or state? Have you thought about an endowed tax credit, giving incentives, or promoting IRA Rollover Gifts? Several peers will breakdown their book of secrets of using such tools to grow giving for community foundations of all sizes. |
||
2:30 PM | Enhancing Collaborations for Growth |
“A Beautiful Mind”: As we wrap up our time together, ABAG and Philanthropy WV will share new resources available, discuss areas for collaborations needed by our members, and areas that we can work together in the future. Did you know about the new Community Foundations Legal Help Desk? Are you wanting to be included in the national CF CEO listserve? We are stronger, brighter and have an even more “beautiful” as a sector when we work together. |
