Program Description
Participate in this two-part board orientation and gain a comprehensive overview of the structure and operations of a community foundation tailored to the key elements that new and seasoned board members need to know. This three-hour training series will explore topics that include:
- History, purpose
- Board governance
- Gifts and funds
- Asset development
- Grantmaking
- Community leadership
- Finance and investments
- Legal Issues
- Operational sustainability
- Lifecycles of community foundations
What you’ll take away
- Deeper knowledge about the community foundation structure and its role;
- An understanding of the challenges and opportunities unique to this structure; and
- Insight into being a more effective steward of community foundation resources – financial and otherwise; and
- Connections to trustee peers within the Philanthropy Ohio network.

- Community foundation CEO or Executive Directors wishing to review key sector information; and
- Board members and trustees of community foundations wishing to build a foundational understanding of the unique aspects of a community foundation.
