Entry Points: Philanthropy’s Response to the Substance Use Disorder Crisis

June 26 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Join us for the latest installment in our Entry Points series, June 26th from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.

This webinar will offer strategies for philanthropy to utilize in addressing substance use disorders and mental health. Presenters will present comprehensive views of the areas having the greatest need for advocacy and support for vulnerable populations dealing with substance use disorders, more urgent now in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hear about lessons learned, best practices and how philanthropy can play a pivotal role in responding to the pandemic’s short-and long-term impacts on those with substance use disorders and mental health conditions. Past experience shows that, during times of stress and uncertainty, individuals struggling with substance use disorders are more susceptible to cope with hardship by increasing substance usage and are at higher risk of death by overdoses or suicide; so we know demand for services will go up in coming months.

By participating in this program, you will:

  • Hear how funders have partnered with local organizations to make a lasting impact on the lives of individuals and communities throughout Illinois and nationwide;
  • Lean about how state and local-level advocacy strategies and relationship building has been crucial in addressing substance use disorder and mental health; and
  • Take away ideas and strategies to replicate models that you can apply in your work.

Our featured speakers will be Joan Englund, Executive Director of the Mental Health and Addiction Advocacy Coalition in Ohio, and Mary Pounder, Program Director of the Comer Family Foundation in Illinois.

This event is free for Philanthropy West Virginia members, and $50 for non-members. To register, please email info@philanthropywv.org. To purchase a non-member registration, please go here.
